The below listed indicators identify at risk ranges for both the Dyslexia Screener custom scores and benchmarks as well as the Dyslexia Referral Checklist. The Dyslexia Screener is comprised of varied measures that directly align with the criteria outlined in TEA’s Texas Dyslexia Handbook.
CLI’s Dyslexia Referral Checklist rates screener results and other comprehensive qualitative and quantitative data to support teachers with determining those students who may be at risk for dyslexia.
TX-KEA Dyslexia Benchmarks & Indicators (English)
LEAs must administer a Dyslexia Screener to Kindergarten students at EOY to meet legislative requirements per Texas Education Code §38.003. The direct TX-KEA assessments align with the criteria for dyslexia screening in accordance with Texas Education Code §28.006 and §38.003(a).
The Dyslexia Screener is comprised of Letter Sounds (receptive and expressive) and Blending (receptive and expressive). Keep in mind for English Dyslexia Screener Total Scores, the student may be at risk for reading difficulties if they score below the cut score (red) on 2 of the 2 dyslexia screener total scores of Letter Sounds (receptive and expressive), Blending (receptive and expressive).
TX-KEA Dyslexia Benchmarks & Indicators (Spanish)
LEAs must administer a Dyslexia Screener to Kindergarten students at EOY to meet legislative requirements per Texas Education Code §38.003. The direct TX-KEA assessments align with the criteria for dyslexia screening in accordance with Texas Education Code §28.006 and §38.003(a).
The Dyslexia Screener is comprised of Sonidos de las Letras (receptivo), Combinación de Sonidos (receptivo y expresivo), and Decodificación in Spanish. Keep in mind for the Spanish Dyslexia Screener Total Scores, the student may be at risk for reading difficulties if they score below the cut score (support/red) on 2 of the 3 dyslexia screener total scores of Sonidos de las Letras (receptivo), Combinación de Sonidos (receptivo y expresivo) and Decodificación.
TPRI Dyslexia Benchmarks & Indicators
The student may be at risk for reading difficulties if they score below the cut score (red/ Still Developing) on 2 of the 2 dyslexia screener total scores for SCR-2 Word Reading and SCR-3 Blending Phonemes. Both screeners must be administered to receive the total score.
Tejas LEE Dyslexia Benchmarks & Indicators
The student may be at risk for reading difficulties if they score below the cut score (red/Nivel de intervención) on 2 of the 2 dyslexia screener total scores Reconocimiento de las palabras, and Conciencia fonológica which is comprised of (Segmentación de los sonidos, Unión de los sonidos).
All measures must be administered at Wave 2 to receive the total “At Risk” score.
